Happy Ulala, Lunar New Year 2013
We welcome Lion Dance on the first day working day (13 February 2013) after Lunar New Year 2013 holiday break on 8.30am.
The loud music, along with the firecrackers and lion movements, are used to scare away “evil spirits” so that good luck and fortune will follow.
All employees are pleased and excited to see the lion movements which match the music played by drum and cymbal.
Happy Snake Year, Ulala.

“USG volunteers & their families from various Departments reached Happy Retirement Home on a sunny Sunday morning on 23 Dec 2012. After group photo taking, volunteers distributed goodies bags (with a Jacket, biscuits, snacks etc. inside) to all old folks and workers there.
Contributions such as rice, oat, milo, eggs collected from SB & SP branches also being handed over to the lady-in-charge, Madam Khor at the same time.
At about 10.45am, volunteers served “Chai Kuih” & cakes to all old folks. Some male volunteers helped to trimmed “Rambutan” trees branches and of course not forgetting to taste the fresh fruits right from the trees.
Some volunteers were busy at kitchen, preparing lunch (Mee Sua Kor). Lunch was served at 11.30am and the old folks seemed like the “Mee Sua Kor” very much – one old folk with top-up up to 4 times !
Ms SB Goh distributed Red Packets to all old folks plus workers there after lunch. The visit ended with a group photo taking and all volunteers headed homes at 1.15pm.
We have proven that USG “Teamwork” not only exist in our workplaces but also can be extended to create a caring Malaysian society.”

Volleyball Competition
URC successfully held the very first Volleyball Competition at the new Volleyball Court (built under USH Go Green Project) @ USG Sungai Bakap on 25 November 2012. The competition drew interest from all USG staff & workers which 6 teams from various Departments were formed to participate.
The main objective of organizing the competition was to encourage all USG staff & workers to make full use of recreation facilities provided by USG to promote healthy living & better working environment – “Work Hard, Play Hard”.
The results of the matches were as followings;
Preliminary Round
1) Ram Laxman Action Team Vs Bir Gurkha Nepal – 25 : 14
2) Ravi Lal Vs 1-Malaysia – 25 : 7
3) Shibu Darji Vs Tika Bahadur Damai – 25 : 16
Final Round
1) Ram Laxman Action Team Vs Ravi Lal – 25 : 12
2) Ravi Lal Vs Shibu Darji – 17 : 25
3) Shibu Darji Vs Ram Laxman Action Team – 31 : 29
Shibu Darji emerged as Champion of the Competition by winning all matches with Ram Laxman Action Team as 1st Runner-up & Ravi Lal as 2nd Runner-up.

Worker Election, Sg Bakap
On 1st November 2012, USG conducts a workers election to choose worker representative for Malaysian, Nepalese and Bangladesh.
On the polling day, all the workers choose their representative in the canteen. In 2pm, the vote tickets are counted and the result is posted on the notice board.

CQM Campaign
CQM dept. was established to enhance the quality management system in USG.
Campaign for factory staff has been organized in both locations at Sungai Bakap on 31st Oct and Sungai Petani on 2nd Nov 2012, with the objective to promote awareness in quality concept.
There are 8 CQM stations have been introduced to the participants and rewards were given to top 3 who manage to answer the question in shortest time. The response is encouraging with the involvement of staff and customer’s representative (API). CQM campaign has been successfully carried out and we hope our staff gains the knowledge through this activity.

ESH Campaign 2012, Sungai Bakap
ESH Campaign 2012 is conducted in Sungai Bakap on 7 Sept 2012. The programs are launching of go green project, opening of fitness equipment, fitness equipment demonstration, blood donations and Exhibition of SOCSO, DOSH and JKJR.
It brings the exposure of healthy life to the employees through the campaign activities.
It creates awareness and provides innovative idea for employee to live in healthy life style.
Blood Donation register a collection of 68 bags.
Nike Lean Engineering Manager Ms. Vony conduct LAT training in SB factory. Ms. Vony highlighted the important of line balancing and learning curve during Gemba in sewing line. She also stress on PDCA skill for supervisor to help them solve problem in daily work.
In Proliferation stage; NOS line has been measured against the min NOS line definition 8 criteria. It is about physical transformation to meeting NOS criteria.
However in Progression stage; NOS line has been measured according to LAT ( Lean Assessment Tool ) And is about Behavioral transformation in Lean implementation.
The participant for Lat Training has done Gemba in SB2 and SB4. Two category for LAT has been discuss; JIT and BIQ. Everyone has benefit from the training and looking forward for more “input” in coming future.

NOS Assessment, Sungai Petani
Another 4 sewing lines has been certified as NOS line by Nike Lean Engineering Manager Ms. Vony.
She said SP has seen the improvement as compared to her last visit on 23-Nov-2011, however she hope to see more improvement in the factory in coming future such as quick changeover, line balancing, learning curve and skill matric to use in multi-skill development program.
Vony has shared her experience with SP that skill matric required good criteria in defining the skill level, standard skill assessment, trained assessor and use of matrix in skill development program.
Vony also highlighted that NOS min 8 requirement is to surface the problem and she hope more PDCA or problem solving activity can be exercised in sewing floor. These will help factory to train more supervisor with problem solving skill and enhance continual improvement in the company.

First Aid and CPR Training
First Aid and CPR is conducted on 21,22 Jun 2012 in Sungai Bakap. The participants have learn how to manage in an emergency situation such as wound, fracture and chocking in theory and practical. After the training, the participants will be appointed to be First Aider in Emergency Response Team.

Sport And Game Party, Sungai Petani
A sport and game party was held on 15/6/2012 till 6/7/2012 from time 6.10pm till 7.30pm.
The purpose of the party are:
1. Make all employee happy, motivated and productive.
2. Build up good relationship between superiors, subordinate and peers.
3. Do exercise and develop teamwork.
All employee are very enjoyed and have a wonderful time during the event.
