Got Talent Nite 2014, Sungai Petani
USG’s Talent Nite 2014 was held at Sungai Petani Branch on 11 April 2014, 5.30pm. The event was organized by URC. Kentucky Fried Chicken & Vegetarian Food Packages were served to all employees prior to enjoying the Nite competitions – namely “USG’s Got Talent Competition” & “Movie Character Imitation Competition”.
A lovely Welcome Dance is presented to kick off the event.
From the Cultural Fashion Show, it shown that the employees are caming from different nationality and races.
Some fortunate employees walked away with Lucky Draws, total amounted to RM1,500. The event ends at 8.30pm.

Bamboo Tree Planting, Sg Petani
On March 11th 2014, ESH had held the first Go Green Project – “Bamboo Tree Planting” for the year of 2014 at USG, Sungai Petani.
This event serves 3 purposes
1. As a part of commitment to the environment.
2. To instil the environmental consciousness among the employees.
3. To filter the heat from direct sunlight in order to conserve electricity.
30 bamboo trees had been planted in front of the company compound and the bamboo trees had adopted by the Head of Department and line supervisor in this event. Each of them will be responsible to take care and watering the bamboo tree.

A Drop of Blood, Can Save a Live
In collaborating with Blood Bank from Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Sg. Petani, Kedah and ESH Committee of USGSP lead by the Chairman Ms Law Hwa Imm has successfully organized a blood donation campaign at USGSP plant in contributing additional 80 pints of blood to Hospital’s blood bank out of total 108 register donor.
The Blood Donation Campaign is held on 7th March 2014 from 9.00am to 2.00pm. The objectives of the program is to let the USGSP employees understand and raise the awareness of the importance of the blood donation.
With the slogan ‘A Drop of Blood, Can save A Life’ has encouraged a lot of employees to joint in the event to donate their blood. Blood donation not only can save a patient’s life but also can help the donor improve his / her body metabolism.

Feb 14 this year is a double celebration for lovebirds. This day coincides with the 15th day of Lunar New Year, last day of the Lunar New Year celebration or better known as Chap Goh Meh.
This is because a long time ago Chap Goh Meh was the only day that young maidens were allowed to dress up and stroll on the street, albeit having to be accompanied by fierce chaperones. Young men would then go out, hoping to catch a sight of the rarely-seen maidens. Young women also went to temples to pray, hoping for the heavens to send them a suitable match. Matchmakers took the opportunity to strike up marriages between eligible individuals.
There is a new twist to the practice these days, with women writing their phone numbers and email addresses on the oranges before tossing them into spots in the hope that the fruits would be picked up by eligible young men who would be their future spouse.
This “double celebration” will only occurs every 19 years, we take this opportunity to celebrate this day by holding a pot luck lunch party in the office. A lot of dishes such as spaghetti, fried bihun, vegetarian fried rice, bread with curry chicken, fruit rojak, bubur cha cha, Vietnamese spring roll and steam ‘年糕’ (kuih bakul) had been served.

Sponsorship for Food Bank4U
Food Bank4U is a charity team formed by 3 ladies volunteers, to distribute food to poor families (especially single parent families) in Penang. Although the team is small but they really have a “BIG HEART” in running the charity works and they really need the support.
The fund raising activity to support Food Bank4U was initiated by Ms Goh SB on 10 February 2014 after reading an article from a local Chinese dailies.
RM2,166.00 plus some food items were collected in a short span of time – thanks for the kindness and generosity of USG’s staff & workers.
The 1st batch of food (80 packages of milk powder) was handed over to Ms Wendy Ang on 13 February 2014 and 2nd batch will be ready to send over when Food Bank4U is ready to accept.

6th Malaysia Local Lean Forum
USG SB has hosted the 6th Malaysia Local Lean Forum (6th-LLF) on 28 November 2013.
The forum has covered Multi Skill Training and 31 participant from USG, SIG, Taiwah and Honsin has met, discussed and shared on the idea and practices in their work place.
A great Thanks to Nike Lean Engineering Manager Ms. Vony, who has supported and given valuable comment on the topic to make forum benefits to everyone.
Every factory has highlighted the important of developing multi-skill in the company. It is a long term investment in human development whereby human is the most valuable asset to the company.
Lean is to eliminate waste and increase value to the customer. These can only be achieved when 4P (People, Product, Process and Philosophy) work as a team.
NOS is a human development system; it help to surface the problem and develop people to have problem solving skill and Kaizen mindset.
There is NO end line in the journey.

A URC team of 5 from United Sweethearts Garment visited “2 Way Centre – an NGO that provide affordable services for children and adolescents with developmental, communication, learning difficulties and other related challenges” Bukit Mertajam Branch on 27 November 2013.
The purpose of the visit was to assist “2 Way Centre ” to run a one day Camp for Children with Challenges.
20 special children with age range from 3 to 17 year-old joined the one day camp. They were divided to 3 age groups. Each age group was guided by “teachers” from “2 Way Centre” and volunteers from URC to carried out activities such as Playing Games, Reading, Singing, Dancing, Coloring, Story Telling etc that help them to enhance their communication and interactive skills.
It was an eye-opening and precious experience for volunteers from URC to play and interact with the special children and realized that it was not an easy task to take care of children – especially children with challenges.
The Camp started approximately at 9.00am and ended at 3.30pm. All children, teachers and volunteers enjoyed the special moment very much and went home with smiles on their faces………
